Fitness as Self-Care
I was not active my entire life. I had no connection to movement as a youth, that I remember! My mother has described stories about me, just standing in the middle of the soccer field, watching the soccer ball go up and down. I do remember feeling a deep yearning to be a gymnast when I'd see them fly through the air and be so agile.
It wasn't until after high school that I discovered movement. I unexpectedly lost some weight and really felt my body, and my desire to care for it, for the first time. I fell in love with fitness and movement as a form of self care; a time to deeply connect with myself; and something to be proud of.
Finding My Life's Purpose
I worked in the fitness industry for years on the business end of things. In 2007, when I gave birth to my daughter, I felt a huge aversion to going back to my current role as an Administrative Assistant. There was no way I would be sitting at that desk, as my new born child was at home! I decided to study, in order to become a Personal Trainer as a lucrative, part-time opportunity. Something that felt like a temporary bandaid allowed me to open up and step into to my life's purpose!
If it feels good, say yes!
"Good" can mean: productive, necessary, refreshing, challenging, and a whole host of other things.
If it feels bad, say no!
If something feels "bad," then I whole-heartedly believe that bodies will have an adverse reaction. This reaction prevents us from reaching our goals of wholeness and connectivity in mind, body, and heart. It is worth exploring.
My goal is to live this life, to the fullest, with love and integrity!
Movement and fitness empower me to do just this. Training and choosing to behave in a way that feels good, lead to the feeling of embodiment that I've experienced in my journey.
