“Health is a human condition with physical, social, and psychological dimensions, each characterized on a continuum with positive and negative poles. Positive health is associated with a capacity to enjoy life and to withstand challenges; it is not merely the absence of disease.”
-Department of Health and Human Services Physical Activity Guidelines,
We're all cooped up at home, left alone with our hopes, fears, thoughts, questions, and electronic devices. Let’s not forget that, despite being socially distanced, we are all in this together: navigating uncharted territory one step at a time.
Perhaps you have already mapped out a weekly schedule for yourself. That’s great!
Did you set aside time to exercise?
- Yes! Keep moving then!
- Not yet, but I am thinking about it! Don’t delay!
- I don’t know how, and I am too old to exercise on my own at home! Please contact us!
150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week are recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for older adults. That breaks down to just 30 minutes of exercise for 5 out of 7 days in the week - that's doable!
Keep in mind that being active offers seniors immediate and long-term health benefits such as:
- Lower risk of all-cause mortality
- Improved cognition
- Improved quality of life
- Reduced anxiety and depression
- Improved sleep
- Slowed or reduced weight gain
- Improved bone health
- Improved physical function
- Lower risk of falls and fall-related injuries
There are lots of activities that can be done in the comfort of your own home and with minimal space and equipment.
Existing Pongo Power Clients: we have the expertise to amend your current studio training program to reflect the space and equipment you have available at home for exercise. You will be working out in no time in front of your computer via Zoom (ideal) or phone (doable, but not recommended) with your personal trainer guiding you through your workout as if you were with us at the studio.
Interested Potential Clients: We can get you started in the convenience of your own home with a complimentary fitness assessment online via Zoom.
The assessment begins with your health history questionnaire, which we will review together in our online appointment. Afterwards, we will guide you through a few movements that help us observe how your body moves naturally and identify any tight or weak muscles.
Based on our findings we will be able to tailor your at home exercise program, guiding you safely through each workout.
Now, more than ever, this is an appointment you need to make and keep!
